Derek is an associate based in Walkers' Cayman Islands office where he specialises in insurance and capital markets with a focus on insurance linked securitisations. He has particular expertise advising on the establishment and ongoing regulation (as appropriate) of insurance linked securitisation vehicles having being involved in a significant number of catastrophe bond and mortality bond transactions.
More recently Derek has advised on life settlement structures, combined QIF/SPV transactions and other bespoke structured transactions. He also has extensive experience advising a wide range of international financial and insurance institutions on all aspects of insurance and reinsurance law and regulation.
In addition to working with our Cayman Islands finance team, Derek supports the structured products and capital markets group in our Dublin office in connection with insurance based transactions and provides local time support on capital markets transactions originating in the United States.
