Walkers’ Business Summer School has received glowing praise from the 100+ students aged 16+ who attended the free Walkers sponsored programme, which took place during the first two weeks of July.

The Summer School, which ran in Guernsey for the fifth and Jersey for the fourth time, offered students the chance to gain a real insight into the world of work whether in financial services, other important local industries such as hospitality or as an entrepreneur. Students based in London also joined the school for the first time this year.

Attendees experienced a mock board meeting, sessions with accountants, fiduciaries and bankers, an overview of local law, a 'meet the entrepreneurs' session and a mock trial before LB Hazel Marshall or Royal Court Commissioner Alan Binnington.

The programme had interesting and informative contributions from representatives of: BDO, Guernsey Financial Services Commission, Glow Strategy Group Limited, Hamilton Brooke, Investec, Jersey Financial Services Commission, MAP Health, Old Government House Hotel, Potting Shed, Radisson Hotel, XXIV Old Buildings and Zedra as well as entrepreneur Dr Tessa Hartmann CBE and Guernsey Deputy Bailiff Jessica Roland.

Alison Ozanne, head of Walkers’ Guernsey Insolvency & Dispute Resolution team, led the programme with the help of members of the Walkers team: Sarah Ash, Sarah Brehaut, Adam Cole, Richard Holden, Daniel Read, Laurent Thibeault, James Turnbull, Ruth Donnellan, Adam Fellows, Rebecca Hale, Martha Male, Angela Proctor, Will Schofield, Kellie Sherwill, Sarah Ball, Victoria Barclay, Craig De Bruyn, Lauren James, Paola Sequeira, Ry Williams, Peter Emmanuel, Rachel Gilliland, Sarah-Jayne Kelly, Andrea Paul and Zara Holt.

Alison said: "We're delighted that we're able to offer this programme to more students every year to help them gain a meaningful understanding of the different types of careers available to them and the training support they can get on and off island."

"We're also extremely grateful to our guest speakers for giving up their valuable time to help make the event such a great success."

"We've received overwhelmingly positive feedback from the students who joined us this year and are thrilled that they left feeling informed and inspired."
