We are marking 20 years of advising clients from Jersey, a milestone that reflects two decades of growth in one of the world's leading international finance centres and our enduring commitment to the island.
Since opening our doors on Hill Street in 2006, where our Jersey office remains today, we have grown alongside the island's financial services industry, expanding our capabilities to meet the evolving needs of clients.
Today, our office is home to 88 legal and business services professionals, including 22 partners, and advises local and international clients across a broad range of matters, including banking and finance, investment funds, corporate, insolvency and dispute resolution, private capital and trusts, employment and regulatory issues.
Working closely with colleagues across Guernsey, London and Dublin, our Jersey office forms a key part of our integrated European platform, supporting clients across multiple jurisdictions and major international financial centres.
Over the past two decades, we have evolved alongside the needs of our clients and the growing sophistication of cross-border transactions and structures involving Jersey. This has included the expansion of our legal offering, the launch of dedicated Banking & Finance and Investment Funds & Corporate practice groups in 2019 and the establishment of Jersey's only standalone Regulatory & Risk practice in 2023. These developments reflect our continued investment in the specialist capabilities clients increasingly require across Jersey and beyond.
Reflecting on the milestone, Jonathan Heaney, managing partner of our Jersey office, said:
'Our 20-year anniversary is an opportunity to reflect on the relationships, people and values that have shaped our Jersey office since 2006. Having led the office for the past 12 years, I have seen first-hand how we have continued to grow our team, broaden our capabilities and deepen our relationships with clients while staying true to the principles that have underpinned our success.'
'What stands out most when looking back over the past two decades is the quality of the people who have contributed to the office's success and the trust our clients have placed in us. We remain committed to building on that foundation in the years ahead.'
Alongside our legal work, we have developed strong connections within the local community and remain committed to supporting the next generation of Island talent. In 2020, we launched our Jersey student bursary scheme, followed by the introduction of the Walkers Business Summer School in 2021. Since then, almost 600 students have participated in the programmes, gaining first-hand insight into careers in financial services.
Fraser Hern, head of our Channel Islands business, added:
'Over the past 20 years, the Jersey office has established itself as a key part of our integrated Channel Islands and European platform. Its success reflects the strength of the local team, the quality of its client relationships and Jersey's enduring importance as an international finance centre.'
'As clients' needs continue to evolve, Jersey remains a vital part of our business and an important jurisdiction for many of the structures and transactions we support. We remain committed to investing in the island and supporting its continued success as a leading international finance centre.'
This milestone forms part of a wider anniversary year for Walkers in Europe, as we mark 25 years in the region alongside other key local milestones, including 10 years in Guernsey and 10 years of Walkers Professional Services in Ireland.
