Overview

Our Legal Bursary Scheme is designed to support the next generation of legal professionals by providing essential financial assistance to those passionate about pursuing a career in law. We believe that talent and ambition should never be limited by financial barriers. That’s why we are committed to empowering aspiring lawyers with the resources they need to thrive, including funding, mentorship, and networking opportunities.

By offering this bursary, we aim to foster diversity and inclusivity within the legal sector, helping individuals from all backgrounds to reach their full potential and make a meaningful impact. This is more than just financial support—it’s an investment in the future of the legal profession.

At Walkers, our people are our greatest assets. They form our culture, and make us stand apart from our competitors. We have an exceptional collegiate team culture, which is underpinned by our core values of respect, integrity, consistency, honesty and trust. Diversity is our secret weapon – it’s the sheer breadth of Walkers people that makes us who we are – gathered from across the globe and fluent in languages, jurisdictions and cultures that help us to mirror our clients and keep our own thinking in tune with the world we operate in.

With offices across Asia, the Caribbean and Europe, Walkers is a leading offshore law firm with a truly international perspective.

As the fastest-growing legal team in the Channel Islands we are constantly looking for talented people who fit the Walkers approach to law: commercial, client-focused and entrepreneurial.

We are looking for students in Guernsey who want to be part of our bursary programme for legal roles - our award is for 1 year of your course and covers:

  • Financial support in instalments
  • Paid summer work placements at Walkers with experience across all practice areas (over a minimum of four weeks)
  • An experienced mentor to provide support and guidance
  • Career advice from our experienced HR team as well as lawyers
  • Possibility of a career with Walkers when you finish your degree

"The Walkers bursary scheme allowed me to develop both personally and professionally. I was able to fully emerse myself in the world of offshore law. I had a hands on experience where I was able to assist with client work and also attend various client meetings as well as having numerous networking opportunities. I was fully guided and supported by the excellent lawyers at Walkers, their advice and guidance was second to none. Being exposed to all different practice areas was invaluable. For me personally, I continued to learn the importance of resilience and adaptability within the work environment, this was made easy for me once again by the tremendous support and mentorship that I gained during my bursary scheme with Walkers" Lailie, Former Bursary Student

"If I were to sum up my time at Walkers in a few words, it would be ‘guiding, helpful and welcoming’. I was given a wealth of knowledge by all of my mentors in each department, they each went above and beyond to ensure my time there was informative, interesting, and useful so that I could make an informed decision about my future in law. My experience at Walkers intensified my desire to pursue a career in law in Guernsey. I am grateful for the kindness that every member of staff showed towards me and the time that they took out of their days to speak with me. I will always carry with me, the connections and relationships I made with everyone in the office." Carys, Former Bursary Student
