Gemma is a partner in our Jersey office and advises on a broad range of regulatory and compliance matters, with particular experience in Jersey's regulatory perimeter.

She regularly supports clients with licence applications, complex change of control matters, AML/CFT compliance, fintech and payments, outsourcing arrangements, consumer credit regulation, prudential regulation, regulatory triggers, and corporate governance.

Gemma's practice has a focus on fintech‑enabled business models. Her experience includes advising on the regulatory treatment of tokenisation structures, the AML/CFT obligations on the issuers of digital assets and on the establishment of virtual asset service providers.

Her experience includes acting on a number of reorganisation, rationalisation and/or consolidation mandates in relation to deposit-taking businesses, insurance businesses and trust company businesses, right through to advising on day-to-day compliance matters for a range of regulated businesses.

Gemma also works closely with a number of retail banks in Jersey, advising on a wide range of matters, including the launch of new business and service lines within the island's legal and regulatory framework.

Experience and recent work

Before joining Walkers' Jersey office in 2024, Gemma advised on a broad range of financial services regulatory matters at a leading offshore law firm, supporting regulated entities and businesses entering the jurisdiction. She regularly delivered training on regulatory developments and has particular experience advising on directors' duties, enforcement of Jersey law security and contingency planning.

Gemma qualified in 2009 with Squire Patton Boggs (UK) LLP (formerly Hammonds LLP) and spent 8 years in their Restructuring and Insolvency team, including a 6-month secondment to the Business Support Unit of a major clearing bank.
