Legal Scholarships

Each year Walkers (Cayman) awards legal scholarships to high performing Caymanian students who have demonstrated a level of academic achievement which indicates they could eventually undertake legal training with Walkers and work for the firm as lawyers. Successful applicants are granted scholarships for law degrees, post-graduate conversion courses and post-graduate qualifying examinations, including the Professional Practice Course, the Legal Practice Course, the Bar Practice (Training) Course and the Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE).

Legal Training

With over 35 years' experience in legal training, Walkers (Cayman) is recognised as the first law firm in the Cayman Islands to develop a comprehensive structured training programme for articled clerks. This 18 month programme provides successful candidates with rigorous practical training in the core areas of legal work undertaken by the firm. Working alongside senior associates and partners on the Cayman Islands' most important cases and transactions, our articled clerks gain invaluable exposure and expertise in the firm's practice areas on a rotational basis. Articled clerks are formally articled to a partner of the firm who acts as a mentor and coach for the duration of their articles. Articles of clerkship are offered to qualified Caymanians with consistent outstanding academic achievements, including a minimum of a 2:1 Bachelors of Law or Graduate Diploma in Law degree and at least a Commendation grade (or equivalent)  in either the Professional Practice Course, the Legal Practice Course or the Bar Professional Training Course or the Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE) Assessments 1 & 2.

Qualifying Work Experience (QWE) and qualifying as a solicitor of England & Wales:  Walkers is excited to share that Articles of Clerkship will also count towards QWE which means that students who have successfully passed SQE Assessments 1 & 2 can add 6 months on to their training to also qualify as a solicitor of England & Wales.

The deadline for the 2023 applications has now passed and we are no longer accepting applications for Articles of Clerkship/QWE.
