Philip Paschalides is based in Walkers' Cayman Islands office and is a partner in the firm's Finance & Corporate Group.

He specialises in debt capital market issuances, securitisations and structured products, including CLNs/repackagings, CLOs, catastrophe bonds, insurance-linked securities and bespoke structured transactions. He frequently represents lenders on secured and unsecured lending transactions, in particular within the hedge fund and private equity fund context.

Over the years, Philip has acted on a number of "pathfinder" transactions, developing structured finance technology which has since become market standard; some of this has been employed recently in the loyalty financing transactions executed by various large US airlines affected by the COVID-19 pandemic on which Walkers acted as Cayman Islands counsel. Over the 2007 financial crisis, he also had an active restructuring practice, dealing with large corporate restructurings as well as the restructuring of complex structured finance transactions such as CDOs and SIVs.

Philip is also a member of the multi-disciplinary Private Capital & Trusts Group, where he represents private clients and family offices on the financial aspects of cross-border transactions in which they participate. He also assists with the relocation of UHNW individuals and families to the Cayman Islands, the structuring and establishment of family offices/private offices as well as the establishment of new businesses within (or the redomiciliation of existing businesses to) the Cayman Islands.

Philip spent his pupillage year at 3 Verulam Buildings, a specialist banking and finance chambers in London. He then moved to Sidley Austin in London, where he spent approximately four years working in a dedicated securitisation and structured finance team. While there, he was also seconded for a short period to the legal department of a specialist emerging markets bank in the City of London.

While at Sidley Austin, Philip worked for arrangers, issuers, credit enhancers, monoline insurance companies and trustees on a wide range of structured finance transactions involving numerous asset classes and employing various structures and techniques. He also represented financial institutions on numerous cross-border lending transactions.
