Paddy Rath is based in Walkers' Ireland office where he is a Partner in the firm's Finance and Capital Markets team. Paddy's principal practice areas are finance and capital markets, securitisation, private equity, distressed investment and corporate restructuring.
In particular, Paddy advises on Irish and EU legal and regulatory aspects of the establishment, financing, operation and management of Irish special purpose vehicles and other investment vehicles which acquire a broad range of asset classes (including loans, mortgages, receivables, distressed assets and insurance-linked securities) from around the world.
Paddy also regularly advises borrowers and lenders in relation to various lending transactions from short-term unsecured loans to multi-currency syndicated loans and revolving facilities.
Some of Paddy's recent transactions include:
- Acting as issuer counsel in relation to a defaulting €375,000,000 Commercial Mortgage Backed Securitisation;
- Advising a leading global reinsurer in relation to the establishment of a US$55,000,000 Irish reinsurance vehicle in Ireland;
- Acting as lead counsel to a number of US hedge funds and private equity funds which invest in distressed, stressed, performing and non-performing European assets;
- Acting as trustee and agency counsel on Irish law capital market deals; and
- Regularly advising lenders on all types of bi-lateral and syndicated lending transactions.
