Practice Areas

Kim Paiva is a senior counsel in Walker's Guernsey office where she is a member of the Corporate, Finance and Investment Funds Group.

Kim advises clients on a broad range of corporate, banking and finance matters. She has particular expertise in acting on corporate transactions involving mergers and acquisitions, take-overs, complex restructurings of all Guernsey entities as well as acting for both lenders, and borrowers on banking and financing transactions.

Kim is part of Walkers' Global Aviation Group and has developed particular experience in acting for both owners and financiers in relation to transactions involving aircraft registered or to be registered on 2-REG (Guernsey's Aircraft Registry).

Recent transactions include:

  1. Acting for Apex on its acquisition of the IPES Group as well as the related financing.
  2. Acting on the acquisition of Phaunos Timber Fund Limited by Stafford Capital Partners Limited.
  3. Acting for Harbert European Real Estate Fund IV, LP on the Guernsey aspects relating to the acquisition and financing of Eastgate Shopping Centre in Scotland, Inverness.
  4. Acting for a major aviation leasing company in respect of the registration of aircraft on 2-REG and related security advice.
  5. Advising a major student accommodation fund on all aspects of Guernsey law relevant to the life of the fund, its regulation, acquisitions of properties throughout the UK, a £125,000,000 refinancing, the disposal by of the Fund of its properties for over £400,000,000;
  6. Acting the establishment of the first peer to peer commercial property lending exchange Protected Cell Company in Guernsey.

Prior to relocating to Guernsey at the beginning of 2009, Kim practised as a corporate and commercial attorney at one of South Africa's largest law firms, Edward Nathan Sonnenbergs.  On arriving in Guernsey, she practised in the Business and Trust Law team at a leading offshore firm, before joining AO Hall, Walkers (Guernsey) LLP's predecessor firm in September 2010.
