Practice Areas

Meenaa Azmayesh is a senior counsel in the Insolvency & Dispute Resolution Group in the BVI office. Her practice includes contentious and non-contentious litigation, with a particular focus on contentious insolvency work. Meenaa regularly advises insolvency practitioners, directors, creditors (both secured and unsecured), and shareholders on a range of issues arising out of shareholder and investor disputes, restructurings and corporate insolvency matters. Meenaa also has experience in international fraud and asset tracing work.

Meenaa regularly represents clients in Court. Her matters have included substantial hearings in the BVI Commercial Court as well as appeals in the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court in the Court of Appeal and the Privvy Council.

Recent Public Matters

General Litigation

 

  • Acting for the successful Claimant in a trial before the BVI Commercial Court and the Eastern Caribbean Court of Appeal in respect of a shareholding dispute concerning an oral contract. Walkers also obtained an injunction in the same proceedings against the Defendants' resident in Hong Kong to prevent further dissipation of assets situated in Hong Kong and elsewhere.

  • Acting for a Chinese high-net worth individual in a complex chancery dispute regarding ownership of shares in a BVI company which held shares in a significant PRC pharmaceutical company, involving issues of PRC law as expert evidence.

  • Acting for a Chinese individual in BVI proceedings relating to the restructuring of trusts, involving complex questions of private international law and family law.

Prior to moving to Walkers' BVI office, Meenaa spent three years working in Walkers' Hong Kong office. She also previously worked in the Restructuring, Insolvency and Bankruptcy practice at Dentons in London.
