Niall Esler is based in Walkers' Ireland office where he is a partner and head of the Regulatory Group. Niall specialises in Irish and EU financial services regulation, as well has having significant commodities regulatory experience.
Niall advises domestic and international credit institutions, investment firms, payment/e-money institutions, asset managers, funds and other institutions on all aspects of Irish and EU financial services regulation. Niall's experience includes advising in relation to the regulatory perimeter, licensing, prudential and conduct of business requirements.
Niall is part of the team that has been advising global financial services groups on the establishment of regulated entities in Ireland to manage the impact of Brexit. Niall is a member of the Walkers FinTech group, which includes senior lawyers from throughout the Walkers network advising on FinTech matters.
Niall has also advised in relation to implementation of regulatory change projects or remediation exercises, financial institution or utility company M&A, regulated asset (e.g. loan book) sale transactions, wind down of regulated business and clients facing Central Bank of Ireland or ECB regulatory authority inspections, themed reviews, risk mitigation programmes and administrative sanctions procedures.
