Jason Ta joined the Walkers' Cayman Islands office in 2019 and is an associate in the Private Capital & Trusts Group. He specialises in arrangements that are highly bespoke or previously unprecedented. Jason has extensive experience across the full spectrum of financial products and asset classes. He has spent over a decade advising global systemically important banks and blue chip companies on market leading transactions. Recently, he has been advising family offices, high net worth individuals, ultra-high net worth individuals, investment banks and insurances companies. Since his arrival in the Cayman Islands, Jason has been involved with the establishment of private and family offices; the deployment of private capital in a number of innovative structures; the establishment of reinsurance business to handle liabilities in excess of several billion U.S. dollars; pension risk transfers and alternative risk transfer/insurance products; complex cross-border collateral arrangements involving shares; initial margin structures; offshore hedging vehicles providing synthetic exposures; longevity swaps; insurance linked securities; securitisations of all kinds; bankruptcy remote vehicles; golden share and independent director arrangements; complex shareholder arrangements and convertible bonds.
Jason completed his training contract at Linklaters (London) in 2013 and qualified into the Derivatives and Structured Products department. He went onto become a Managing Associate at Linklaters four years later in 2017. Whilst at Linklaters, between 2014-2019, Jason acted as lead counsel for Deutsche Bank AG's award winning management account platform (dbSelect) and advised on a variety of fund-linked and index-linked derivatives and structured products. In 2018-2019, Jason was a consultant for NatWest Markets plc (formerly The Royal Bank of Scotland plc) for the restructuring of its balance sheet (worth several billion U.S. dollars) to separate their derivatives business from their retail business. Jason has spent time on secondment at Deutsche Bank (London) and NatWest Markets plc (formerly The Royal Bank of Scotland plc).
