Iona Wright is a senior counsel in Walker's Regulatory & Risk Advisory Group, having joined in 2022. She has over 12 years' experience in advising on financial services regulation, with a particular focus on the buy-side.Iona has substantial expertise across a wide range of financial services regulatory matters, including licensing and regulatory perimeter analyses, financial promotion considerations, cross-border marketing of funds, fund management, banking and investment firm remuneration, senior management governance and controls, regulatory corporate transaction support and ESG investing.
Prior to joining Walkers, Iona was counsel in the financial services regulatory team of Norton Rose Fulbright LLP in London. She was a trusted advisor to several large US private equity houses on AIFMD compliance and to a number of US and Canadian headquartered banking and investment firm groups on the application of AIFMD, CRD and IFPR remuneration rules.Iona was a leading member of the 2018 and 2021 UK Investment Association model IMA working groups, which helped to develop and update the UK industry standard. She was also involved in the provision of regular industry training on the structure and negotiation of IMAs to Investment Association members.While at Norton Rose Fulbright LLP, Iona was seconded to Russell Investments and Chicago Mercantile Exchange, where she gained in-house experience across both the buy-side and sell-side sectors.
