Marco Lam is a counsel in the Regulatory & Risk Advisory Group based in Walkers' Singapore office.

Having worked in both private practice and in-house counsel roles at global banks and a major regulator, Marco brings more than 10 years' experience as a financial services regulation specialist with extensive knowledge of the banking and finance, FinTech, global markets, insurance, and investment management sectors.

Marco advises on a wide range of offshore regulatory matters, including beneficial ownership, corporate governance, CRS and FATCA, data protection, economic substance, financial crime prevention (including anti-money laundering, counter-terrorist financing, counter-proliferation financing, and international sanctions), licensing applications and perimeter advice, and virtual assets. His clients are predominantly financial institutions, including banks, investment funds, investment managers, and advisers.

As well as advisory work, Marco assists clients with preparing a variety of regulatory compliance documentations and managing regulatory audits, inspections and investigations.

Marco is a trilingual lawyer, fluent in English, Cantonese and Mandarin.

Prior to joining Walkers, Marco was a senior manager in the licensing team of a major regulator. He has over 10 years' experience as a specialist financial regulatory lawyer, working at major international law firms, global banks, a major financial regulator and a financial ombudsman across Singapore, Australia and Hong Kong. Before practising offshore laws, he was admitted to practise in four onshore common law jurisdictions.
