Walkers Leads Offshore in Legal 500 Asia-Pacific 2019

Walkers Hong Kong and Singapore have once again been ranked in Band 1 for Offshore Law by Legal 500 in the 2019 Asia-Pacific Guide.

Described by Legal 500 as "A standout in the region as a result of its 'responsiveness, technical ability and pragmatic deal execution", Walkers has 11 partners and counsels ranked in the guide.

One source described Walkers as a "pre-eminent legal service provider in the offshore space", and a further source added "an unparalleled bench of lawyers and a responsive spirit that makes them hard to beat".

Andy Randall manages the firm's Hong Kong office and is regarded as "gregarious and extremely hardworking". "The absolute go-to-partner for financial advice in the regional offshore market", Andy covers a wide array of financing matters including structured finance transactions, where he displays "a substantial amount of experience".

Kristen Kwok is regarded as "very responsive and commercial". Kristen is another key member of the finance team across both structured finance and capital markets deals, and adds particular value for PRC and Taiwanese clients by virtue of her fluent Mandarin.

Paul Aherne has been noted by one client as "the best offshore debt lawyer in the market" and "very commercial". Paul recently advised Bank of America Merrill Lynch as lead arranger on the $3.6bn financing in support of the $6.8bn take-private of Hong Kong-listed shoe retailer Belle International Holdings.

Denise Wong spearheads the firm's corporate and funds practice and is said to be "resourceful and understanding of Chinese clients' needs". She recently acted as Cayman Islands counsel to Tencent Holdings and Tencent Music Entertainment in connection with their equity investments with Spotify.

Amelia Hall has been regarded as "very responsive and quick to identify practical issues", and is also noted for her corporate expertise and was Cayman counsel to Chinese internet video service provider iQiyi on its $2.25bn NASDAQ listing.

Timothy Haynes leads the office's insolvency and litigation team and considered to be "responsive and commercially-minded". Timothy is said to have an excellent reputation for contentious insolvency matters, is noted for his "strong track record in relation to complex shareholder cases".

"At the top of her game", Joanne Collett is well regarded for her prowess in handling cross-border restructuring and insolvency cases as well as shareholder dissent disputes.
