Asset Finance and Capital Markets practices lead excellent Legal 500 results for Walkers Ireland

Walkers Ireland has been recognised in the 2019 Legal 500 EMEA Guide's Ireland section with five lawyers ranked as 'Leading Lawyers' and top tier rankings for both the Asset Finance and Capital Markets practices. A further 17 lawyers are recommended in the publication and Walkers received subsequent Band 2 rankings for the Banking and Finance, Tax, Insolvency and Corporate Restructuring practices while Investment Funds, Real Estate and Corporate were all ranked under Band 3.

Walkers' Ireland Capital Markets team is described in the publication as 'incredibly responsive and commercial' while providing 'clear, concise and comprehensive advice.' Ireland Managing Partner and Head of Finance and Capital Markets, Garry Ferguson, is ranked as a leading individual. Finance and Capital Markets Partner, Andrew Traynor and Of Counsels Ian McNamee and Ailís Garvey are noted for 'providing consistently excellent service'. Partner, Noeleen Ruddy and Of Counsel, Paddy Rath are noted as being 'very commercial, responsive and collaborative' while Partner, Matt Hedigan is ranked as a next generation lawyer.

The Banking and Finance team also led by Managing Partner, Garry Ferguson, is described as having 'a particularly strong international client base' with 'real estate finance, corporate and fund finance, and loan portfolio sales highlighted as being key areas of work' across this team. 

The Asset Finance team is described as 'understanding of the unique requirements of the client's business and is very good at thinking outside the box.' Practice head Ken Rush is seen as 'stand out as a top-tier lawyer' thanks to his 'rigorous legal approach and customer-focused relationships.' Asset Finance Partner, David McGovern is recommended for his non-traditional markets expertise and is a partner who 'makes clients feel like they are his only customer.'

The Tax team is noted for its 'responsiveness' and 'skill set within the financial services sector'. Tax Practice Head, Jonathan Sheehan, is described as being 'a leader in his field: his knowledge of both Irish and global tax matters is second to none, he has an acutely analytical mind and is impressively articulate.' Tax Partner, Aisling Burke is recognised and Of Counsel, Eimear Burbridge is ranked as a next generation lawyer.

Insolvency and Corporate Restructuring Practice Head, Gavin Smith, is noted for his expertise in the contentious sphere, advising insolvency practitioners, companies and creditors. In the non-contentious space, he was particularly noted for the novel use of the cross-border merger regulations as part of a restructuring and winding up of a CMBS structure.

Investment Funds Practice Head, Nicholas Blake-Knox, is noted as being 'proactive and knowledgeable in the offshore funds space' while Investment Funds Partner, Sarah Maguire, is recognised for 'providing creative solutions to complex problems while communicating clearly.' Senior Associate, Emily Goodman, is described as being 'a great resource in the team.' Investment Funds Partner Jennifer Fox is also noted.

The Lawyers in Walkers' Corporate practice are recognised as being 'very capable corporate advisers' and Practice Head, Brendan O'Brien is described as an 'Excellent practitioner and adviser.' Corporate Senior Associate, Eoin Ryan, is also recognised for his expertise.

Real Estate Practice Head, Rachel Rodgers, 'is extremely approachable' and 'always finds time to put her clients first' while Of Counsel, Jody Toner is described as 'an impressively knowledgeable lawyer in real estate' and impresses with his 'aptitude for explaining complex legal issues to non-legal professionals in a clear and concise manner.' The Real Estate team is noted for its advice to lenders on the financing of residential property acquisitions and for its work with major players in the development market.
