Open Event to Analyse and Discuss new Guernsey Discrimination Law as Consultation Window Closes

With new discrimination legislation around the corner in Guernsey, Walkers' market-leading Guernsey employment law team is holding an interactive panel discussion and Q&A for employers to explore the main principles of the proposed legislation, how it might impact employers and provide their analysis of the key areas of the Discrimination Legislation Consultation for Employers to focus on.

The team - Partner Louise Hall and Senior Counsels Sarah Ash and Vicky Pratt – will be joined by specialist employment lawyers from Walkers' Jersey and Dublin teams, who have experience of dealing with and advising on the same kind of multi-ground discrimination legislation that is planned in Guernsey.

The event, which is free to attend, takes place at St James from 8 am on Thursday 15 August.

Senior counsel and experienced discrimination lawyer, Sarah Ash said that the session was well timed.

She said: "The proposed discrimination legislation will be a significant change for Guernsey employers. It is therefore essential for employers to understand the scope of the proposed legislation and how it might impact their businesses so that they can engage and provide their feedback as part of the Discrimination Legislation Consultation before the proposals are finalised and put before the States for consideration. Pan-Island employers, and employers with UK operations, will also need to understand where the approach in Guernsey might differ and consider carefully how they will address this.

"We would urge business owners, general counsel and in-house legal staff, directors, NEDs and HR professionals to attend and learn about the proposed shape of the legislation. The consultation, which is open until 30 September 2019, is likely to be the last chance for businesses to have a real say on the content of the proposed law."
