Walkers Welcomes Three New Lawyers to London Office

Walkers is pleased to announce that Jennifer Maughan has joined Walkers' London office as a senior counsel in the Global Insolvency & Dispute Resolution Group.

Additionally, senior associate Carl Hey and associate Craig McDermaid have relocated from Walkers' Cayman Islands office to join the London office's Finance and Investment Funds practices, respectively.

Jennifer Maughan is a dispute resolution specialist who has spent the last decade in Hong Kong advising clients based in China and South East Asia on contentious and non-contentious matters involving Cayman Islands and British Virgin Islands law. Her practice covers general commercial litigation as well as contentious insolvency and restructuring, typically with a cross-border element.

Jennifer has acted on a variety of matters including contentious valuation disputes, fund and shareholder disputes and contentious insolvency and restructuring matters. She has acted both for and against appointment holders and regularly advises clients including creditors, debtor companies, shareholders and investors in complex, high value disputes. She also has experience of seeking interim relief in support of both foreign litigation and arbitration proceedings before the courts of the Cayman Islands and British Virgin Islands. Jennifer also represented the Hong Kong-appointed provisional liquidators of a Cayman Islands-incorporated company, Changgang Duxin, in their recognition application before the Cayman Islands courts which was the first of its kind and shortlisted for a Global Restructuring Review award in 2018.

Insolvency & Dispute Resolution partner John O'Driscoll commented: "We are delighted to welcome Jennifer to the London team. Her experience of the Asia-Pac market and Cayman and BVI law will be integral to our expanding practice. I am very much looking forward to working with her."

Carl Hey, admitted as a barrister and solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand in 2011, joined Walkers' Cayman Islands office in May 2018 and focuses predominantly on fund finance transactions. Prior to joining Walkers, Carl trained and qualified at top-tier firms in New Zealand and practiced in London in the real estate finance teams of Herbert Smith Freehills LLP and Clifford Chance LLP.

Craig McDermaid Joined Walkers' Cayman Islands office in January 2018 where he advised on Cayman Islands hedge funds and private equity funds, including structuring, formation, registration, launch, management, regulatory compliance, downstream acquisitions and divestments, deregistration and winding up. Prior to joining Walkers, Craig trained at Clayton Utz in Australia.

"We are delighted to be in a position to expand our core practice areas with additional high-quality colleagues to meet client demand. Corporate, Dispute Resolution, Finance and Investment Funds are critical service lines for our London office and I am very pleased we are able to count Jennifer, Carl and Craig as part of our market-leading bench," commented London office managing partner Jack Boldarin.
