AIMA: Practical Implications of Cayman Islands AML Developments

As a stable, world-class financial centre, the Cayman Islands play a pivotal role in the global alternative investment industry. The Cayman Islands has an established AML/CFT regime but 2021 saw the Caribbean nation being added to the Financial Action Task Force’s list of Jurisdictions under Increased Monitoring (the ‘grey list’). While the impact on the global investment community has been muted, Cayman is addressing the concerns expressed by the FATF in a speedy and determined manner.

Walkers' Regulatory & Risk Advisory lead partner Lucy Frew will be joined by Maples Group partner Tim Dawson for a fireside chat webinar discussing the impact of the FATF grey listing and the ensuing updates to regulation and their practical implementations.

Date: Tuesday 18 January 2022
Time: 10.00 am - 10.45 am (EST)

Topics that will be covered include:

  • The progress made by the government and industry to meet FATF requirements
  • Changes to the legislation in 2019 and 2020 following the Caribbean FATF Mutual Evaluation
  • A discussion of the practical implications the updated regulations
  • A high-level overview of local AML/CFT requirements, including risk assessments and appointing AML Officers
  • An anecdotal cross-jurisdictional comparison with KYC requirements of other fund establishment jurisdictions
