We have strengthened our Channel Islands Banking & Finance practice with the appointment of senior counsels Giles Butcher and Sukhvinder Chana. These appointments further enhance our capabilities across a broad range of financing transactions, including real estate finance, fund finance, leveraged acquisition work, structured finance, securitisations and cross-border lending matters.
Giles joins our Jersey office, while Sukh joins our Guernsey Banking & Finance team and is based in our London office.
Giles advises leading investment managers, lenders and other market participants on a broad range of banking and debt finance matters. He has particular experience advising on the offshore legal and regulatory aspects of complex securitisations and structured finance transactions, including CLOs, residential mortgage-backed securitisations, private warehouse transactions and significant risk transfer structures. Before relocating to Jersey, Giles practised with Walkers in the Cayman Islands and previously worked at Macfarlanes in London and another leading offshore law firm in the Cayman Islands.
Sukh's appointment reflects the increasing use of Guernsey structures in international financing transactions and further strengthens our ability to support clients and intermediaries in the London market. His focus is on fund finance and real estate finance matters, advising sponsors, lenders and investors on a range of complex cross-border transactions. Prior to joining Walkers, he worked in the corporate and finance group of another offshore law firm in London and previously practised at Taylor Wessing and Gowling WLG.
Nigel Weston, head of our Channel Islands Banking & Finance group, said:
'We are pleased to welcome Giles and Sukh to Walkers. Their appointments add significant strength and depth to our Banking & Finance practice and further enhance our capabilities across fund finance, structured finance, securitisations, real estate finance and wider financing transactions. As client demand continues to increase, investing in exceptional talent remains a key priority and we look forward to the contribution they will make to our clients and our business.'
These appointments form part of our continued investment in the Channel Islands. We have also recently welcomed six associates across our Jersey and Guernsey offices, further strengthening our ability to support clients on complex domestic and cross-border banking and finance matters.
