Robert specialises in complex, high-value offshore disputes with a strong Asia focus. He practises the laws of the Cayman Islands, BVI and Bermuda and is often instructed as strategic counsel in special situations engagements with an offshore dimension.

His practice operates at the highest judicial level, with multiple matters currently before or recently determined by the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council.

Robert advises a diverse client base including ultra-high net worth individuals and family offices, private equity funds and sponsors, hedge funds, multinational corporations, banks and financial institutions, insolvency practitioners and fiduciaries.

His practice primarily encompasses:

corporate control disputes, contested shareholder meetings and proxy battles,
shareholder and joint venture disputes,
investment fund disputes,
fraud and asset tracing,
enforcement of security and the recognition and enforcement of foreign judgments and arbitral awards,
offshore strategies in support of onshore litigation and arbitration,
special situations, and
insolvency and restructuring.

Robert has developed particular expertise in contentious corporate governance matters, with a focus on the procedural and strategic aspects of board and shareholder disputes, often involving companies listed on the major stock exchanges. He regularly advises on requisitions, proxy battles, and contested meetings, including adjournment and postponement disputes. His work in this area is informed by direct experience on several of the most significant offshore corporate control contests with an Asia dimension in recent years. Robert is also an active contributor to thought leadership in this area; he has authored articles for publications including International Corporate Rescue and Hong Kong Lawyer.

He has a strong track record in urgent interlocutory applications, including freezing injunctions, the appointment of receivers and enforcement of share security, often in support of proceedings in other jurisdictions. He is experienced in developing and executing sophisticated multi-jurisdictional litigation strategies, working effectively alongside onshore counsel across diverse legal systems.

Experience and recent work

Prior to joining Walkers, Robert worked as a dispute resolution lawyer at an international law firm in London. His practice focused on defending directors and majority shareholders against minority shareholder and derivative claims, and acting for insurers in litigation and international arbitrations.
